Sharing a photo of one of your treasured memories can be a beautiful moment in someone’s life. But to complement the picture, you’ll need a Made to Measure Picture Frame that fits perfectly. Initially, the task may seem overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. Our ultimate guide will help you through the process of selecting the ideal picture frame for your precious memories.
Why Choose a Custom made Picture Frame?
Custom made picture frames offer the best benefit of being fully customisable to your preference, allowing you to create a unique and personalised frame for your cherished memories. When you opt for custom made picture frames, you have the advantage of personalising the frame according to your liking. This way, you can create a unique and personalised frame that perfectly matches the ongoing theme of your house. Here at Picture Frames Direct, all our frames are hand-made right in our own workshops using the highest quality materials. We have a Frame Builder tool that includes a wide range of colours and materials that can help you decide on the frame that suits you. With an extensive range of picture frames, you can be sure you will find the perfect custom picture frame for your home rather than a store bought frame.
How to Choose your Custom Frame?
Before we begin the process of creating your custom frame, it’s important that we gather some important details to ensure it meets your needs perfectly. Firstly, you will need to determine a budget for the frame. Custom frames can vary in price, so the price will change depending on the quality of the material you want. Luckily on our Frame Builder, any changes you make will adjust the price in real-time. This should give you an idea of what you will be getting from us, and in return ease the process of picking a frame suited for you.
Once the budget is arranged then we can start to look at frames. Before selecting a frame, it is essential to consider the item that will be placed inside the frame. On our Site, you have the option to upload your images to visualise the finished product on screen before you order. When choosing a frame, we would need to take in consideration the colours and style of the picture. This is because we don’t want the picture and the frame to compete for attention. They both need to complement each other.
Measuring the Artwork
Our next step is to measure the picture accurately in order to create a frame that fits perfectly. To do this you will need to measure the width and height and the photo you would like to frame. On our Frame Builder site you can input the measurements in MM, CM or INCH. All our frames are hand-made in our workshops, so with the measurements we can accurately design them to fit. The secret to the perfect fit is to take into consideration that the frame is slightly larger than the picture. Most frames have a 4MM overlap so this would need to be taken into consideration when measuring. However that won’t be an issue on our Frame Builder, as we have an overlap option. If you have entered the exact sizes that you want the openings to be, but you haven’t taken the overlap into consideration then you can tick the overlap box.We will adjust the frame for you so your photo fits perfectly. The same rule would also apply when customising your Picture Mounts.
Choosing a Custom Picture Mount
Picture mounts are an important decision when choosing a custom frame. A picture mount not only prevents the artwork from touching the glass, but it also helps the image stand out by creating a visual space between the subject matter and the frame. So having a mount can protect your artwork and it achieves this by acting as a shield from the glass. Without having a mount in place, your artwork can stick to the glass and therefore ruin the artwork. If a frame does not have a mount, it can allow dust and condensation to enter the frame, potentially ruining the image.
Using a mount can enhance the visual appeal of both the frame and the artwork by adding contrast. An example of this would be if you have a Black and White photo, you would want to use a more neutral colour like black, white or grey to enhance it. Whereas, if you had a more modern photo, you can then have a brighter colour like red, which could add some warmth to the photo.
Looking for a frame for a special occasion or as a gift? Then we have the perfect solution. You have the option to add a special message on our picture mounts by using the text feature. You can move the text to your desired location for the final touch-up. Including a message in the mount of an image can enhance the overall picture and make for a thoughtful gift.
Choosing the Frame Material
When choosing the material for your frame, it’s important to consider the overall style and aesthetic you’re going for. Our frames come in a wide range of materials including ranges from Pine Base all the way to Meranti Wood. It would be important to keep in mind that the frame should match the ongoing theme in the room where the picture will go. To create a cohesive look, try matching the frame colour with the colour of your furniture or appliances in your house. Another example would be matching the material with neutral colours in the house. For more ideas about matching picture frames to your décor, check out this blog post.
Glazing
Finally, let’s consider the type of glass you prefer for displaying your images. Although it may be overlooked, the right glass choice can have a significant impact depending on where the image is being displayed. For example, if the photo is displayed on a window ledge, then we have an option anti reflective perspex. This helps to reduce the glare and improves the visibility of the artwork. It will also make it more resistant to scratches and UV damage.
As we are aware, accidents can happen, so another option would be a thicker shatterproof glazing for the frame. This would be a good option if the photo is displayed around children or pets. The reason for this would be it increases safety during unexpected events, by holding the shards of glass in place to prevent it from shattering. A thicker shatterproof glass is also more resistant to scratches and UV damage.
All that’s left to do now is to hang it up when it arrives. We can assist in this as we also have hanging hooks and kits available, just add them to your order and they will arrive with the frame.
Summary
Choosing the right picture frame is a crucial decision that can affect the overall look and feel of the artwork. It’s important to consider various aspects such as the size, frame style, colour, picture mount, and material of the frame to ensure that it complements the artwork and the room it will be displayed in. By carefully selecting each component, you can create a Custom Frame that perfectly showcases your artwork and enhances the overall aesthetic appeal.
You also need to consider the mount, the backing, the glazing, and the hanging options of the frame. These elements can help to protect the piece from damage or fading while also enhancing its overall appearance. Creating the perfect picture frame is a matter of personal taste, and it is worth taking the time and effort to get it right.
